How it works
How Cachejay works
It reads your screen, listens to your calls and writes it all down by project. Then ChatGPT and Claude can ask it things.
It reads your screen
Not with screenshots. It uses the macOS Accessibility API, the one screen readers use, so apps hand over their text directly. There's no video file quietly eating your disk.
Every two seconds while you're at the keyboard, it checks the front window and keeps whatever changed.
- Password managers, Keychain Access and private browser windows are never read
- Password fields are skipped in every app
- You can exclude apps, pause, or forget the last 15 minutes
It listens to your calls
When a Zoom, Meet, Teams or FaceTime call starts, Cachejay transcribes it on your Mac with Apple's speech engine. Nobody gets a bot invite, and the audio is thrown away.
After the call you get notes and the transcript. Anything you said you'd do lands on your to-do list. More on call notes.
It writes things down
This is the part that works like a project tracker nobody has to update. Each project gets a page with what happened and what's still open. Each day gets a write-up, and so does each week and month. Requests people send you in Slack or email go on your to-do list.
It's all plain Markdown in ~/Cachejay, refreshed every 10 minutes. If you edit a file, Cachejay leaves it alone. Open Library in the menu bar takes you there.
ChatGPT and Claude ask it things
On your Mac, one click connects Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor or Codex. Say “the error I just saw” and they look it up with these tools.
| Tool your AI calls | What it gets back |
|---|---|
what_was_i_doing | The last few minutes, or a whole day, week or month. |
project_brief | Where you left off on a project. |
search_memory | Anything you saw, said or discussed, by words. |
current_screen | The text in your front window right now. |
list_meetings, get_meeting | Your calls and their full transcripts. |
todos, update_todo | Your to-do list, to read and edit. |
time_report | Where your time went, by project and app. |
find_files | Files on your Mac, through Spotlight's index. |
list_projects | Your projects, most recent first. |
On the web and your phone
Everything Cachejay captures and writes up also syncs to your private cloud space, with passwords and keys masked. That's how ChatGPT and Claude on the web or your phone can use it: add https://cachejay.com/mcp as a connector and sign in with your email. They can search everything, see what you were just doing, read call transcripts and notes, and run deep research over it, but never change anything. Where your memory lives, and how to keep it on the Mac.
Everything Cachejay hands back is marked as untrusted, so a web page you visited can't sneak instructions to an agent.
Questions
Does Cachejay record my screen?
No. It reads the text apps already hand to screen readers. No screenshots, no video.
Which call apps does it work with?
Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and FaceTime. The audio isn't kept.
Where is everything stored?
On your Mac, and in your private cloud space so ChatGPT and Claude can reach it from any device. The Mac keeps a copy up to a size limit; the cloud keeps the history. You can turn syncing off or delete the cloud copy.
What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol. It’s the open standard AI apps use to call tools. More on MCP memory servers.
How does it know which project something belongs to?
A project is a git repository you work in. Pages, documents and calls get matched to it by file path, GitHub link or the project’s name.
