Where your memory lives

Captured on your Mac, kept in your private cloud space, so ChatGPT and Claude can use it from any device. Here's exactly what that means, and how to switch it off.

Captured on your Mac

  • Screen text is read on your Mac through the macOS Accessibility API. No screenshots, no recordings.
  • Calls are transcribed on your Mac by Apple's speech engine. The audio is never saved or sent anywhere.
  • File search uses Spotlight's index on your Mac. Your files aren't uploaded.

Never captured

  • Password managers, Keychain Access, and private or incognito browser windows. Password fields are skipped everywhere.
  • Any app you add to the excluded list in settings.

Kept in your private cloud space

What Cachejay captures (screen text, call transcripts and AI agent sessions) and the notes it writes (days, weeks, months, projects, calls) sync to your account in Cachejay's cloud. That's what lets ChatGPT and Claude answer from it on your phone or the web. Passwords, API keys and tokens are masked before anything is sent.

Your account's data is stored separately from every other account, on infrastructure we run ourselves. Only you, and apps you approve by signing in, can read it, and they can only read.

Your Mac keeps a copy too, with a size limit. The cloud keeps the history.

Your controls

  • Keep it on the Mac: set cloud_sync to false in settings. Nothing more is sent, everything stays on your Mac, and phone and web access stops working.
  • Disconnect apps: Connect AI Apps › Disconnect All Phone and Web Apps in the menu bar revokes every connected app at once.
  • Delete it: Settings › Delete Cloud Notes… deletes everything in the cloud, disconnects every app and stops syncing.
  • If your trial or subscription ends, everything in the cloud is deleted after 60 days and every connected app is disconnected.

Other things that leave your Mac

  • When you ask an AI app something. ChatGPT, Claude, Codex or Cursor receives the memories it looks up, and they become part of your conversation with that provider, under its terms, at your request.
  • Notes and summaries. To write a call's notes, a day's summary or your to-dos, Cachejay sends that text, with secrets masked, to its AI service, which passes it to Anthropic's Claude and keeps nothing but a count of jobs. You can use Apple's on-device model, your own Claude Code or Codex, or your own API key instead.
  • Signing in. Your email, to send you a 6-digit code when you sign in at cachejay.com. Each Mac you sign in on sends an ID and its name, and gets a token so it stays signed in.
  • Update checks. A request for the latest version number, once a day.
  • Payments. Stripe handles them. We keep your email, plan and Stripe customer ID.
  • The waitlist. If you join it, we keep your email to send you the download.
