Screen History
Scrub back to what you saw
Cachejay keeps a small picture of your screen about once a minute and reads the text in it on your Mac. Scrub through any day, on your Mac or the web, or type a few words that were on screen and jump straight to the moment.

What it's for
The thing you half remember
A pricing table, a chart, a message you scrolled past. Type a word you remember and it finds the moment.
What it looked like
Text is searchable, but sometimes the layout matters. The picture is there.
Showing your AI
ChatGPT and Claude can look at the screenshot from a moment, so “what did that error look like?” works, even from your phone.
Where the pictures go
Each screenshot's text is read on your Mac with Apple's text recognition, then the picture and its text go to your private cloud space. Pictures are deleted after 14 days; the text stays searchable. That's what lets you open any day on the web at cachejay.com/app, and what ChatGPT and Claude can search.
Private apps and windows are never captured, and turning off the screenshots setting stops it. Privacy details.
If you used Rewind before it shut down, this is the part you'll recognize. Cachejay vs Rewind.
Questions
How often does it take a screenshot?
About once a minute while you’re active, and only when the screen really changed. Never while you’re away, or while your Mac is busy, running hot or in Low Power Mode.
Where are the screenshots kept?
In your private cloud space for 14 days, then deleted automatically. The text read from them stays searchable after that. Your Mac also keeps its own copy for 7 days, up to 1.5 GB.
Does it capture everything?
No. Private apps and private or incognito windows are never captured, and you can exclude any app.
How do I find something?
Open Screen History from the menu bar and scrub through the day, or type words that were on screen and jump to the moment.
Can ChatGPT or Claude see them?
Yes, when they ask. On your Mac, or on the web and your phone through Cachejay’s connector, they can look at the screenshot from a moment to see what a page or an error looked like. That picture then goes to the app’s provider as part of your conversation.
Can I turn it off, or delete them?
Turn it off with the screenshots setting. Settings › Delete Cloud Notes… deletes everything in the cloud, pictures included. Cachejay needs macOS’s Screen Recording permission to take them at all.
