How to make Gemini remember your work
Gemini can keep your preferences and learn from past chats. Your work changes faster than that, though. Here's what each memory feature holds, and how to give Gemini the current state of your projects.
Tell it what to keep
Say “remember that I run marketing at Acme and prefer short answers”, or add it to saved info in settings. This is the right place for what's always true: your role, your tone, names you use often. You can see and delete it any time.
Let it learn from past chats
With the past chats setting on, Gemini uses earlier conversations to personalize new ones. It's useful for preferences you've shown rather than stated. It keeps what came up in Gemini, so it won't know about work you did elsewhere.
A Gem per project
For a client or product, make a Gem with instructions and a few files: what the work is, who it's for, what's decided. Every chat with that Gem starts from them. Update the files when things change, or the Gem keeps answering from the old version.
Your work as it changes
Saved info and Gems hold what you wrote down. What changes daily, like this week's calls, new deadlines and who's waiting on what, needs a source that keeps itself current.
Cachejay is that source. It keeps your calls, what you read and wrote on your Mac, and a page per project that's rewritten as decisions change. Gemini reads it as a custom app, so you ask instead of re-telling. Add it from Connect AI Apps › Gemini App… in Cachejay's menu with https://cachejay.com/mcp; Google allows custom apps on personal accounts in the US, in English, with Keep Activity on. Test what it knows
Ask “what do you know about me?” to see what Gemini has kept, and “what did I agree to on calls this week?” to see whether it can reach your work. If the second one comes back empty, the context isn't connected yet. Tired of pasting in the meantime? How to stop pasting context into Gemini.
