How to stop pasting context into Gemini
If every Gemini chat starts with a pasted email thread or a paragraph about the project, here's where that background can live instead: saved info, Gems, past chats and connected apps.
1. Saved info: who you are
Gemini's saved info (called instructions in some places) applies to every chat. Use it for what's always true: your role, your company, how you like answers. A few short lines work better than a long profile.
2. Gems: one project
A Gem is Gemini with its own instructions and files. Make one per client or recurring task, with a short summary of where things stand and the documents you keep pasting. As with any saved file, it's only as good as its last update.
3. Past chats
With the past chats setting on, Gemini draws on earlier conversations, so you don't repeat preferences you've already given it. Check Google's help for the current rules on which accounts and countries have it.
4. Connected apps
Gemini can read Gmail, Drive, Calendar and other Google apps you connect. If your work lives there, ask it to look rather than pasting: “find the latest email from Acme about the deadline.”
5. The rest of your work
Calls on Zoom or Teams, Slack threads, the doc in Notion, the session with your coding agent: none of that is in Google's apps. Cachejay keeps it as you work on your Mac, with notes from your calls and a page per project, and Gemini can read it as a custom app.
In Cachejay's menu choose Connect AI Apps › Gemini App…, then in Gemini add a custom app with https://cachejay.com/mcp. Google allows custom apps on personal accounts in the US, in English, with Keep Activity on. Steps, plus Antigravity and Gemini CLI: Cachejay for Gemini.
